“A real gem”
Fabulous holiday cottage, full of character, with wonderful views and a brilliant living space for friends and family get togethers. Three bathrooms was a real bonus and the beds were very comfortable. It felt like being in a hotel whilst having every home comfort and more. Its location is perfect; peaceful but with a great pub close by and within easy reach of York, Malton and the coast. A real gem! Thank you for a brilliant weekend! I'll be back!
“Book your escape to this Yorkshire treasure”
From the moment we walked in we felt at home in this beautiful, spacious cottage. Everything you need for a comfortable relaxing stay has been provided. Lovely unexpected touches such as the fluffy white robes all help to make you feel welcome in this home from home. It is a brilliant social space and ideal for get togethers for families or friends with plenty of room for everyone. No awkward ”who’s going to have the worst bedroom” as all three are beautiful and the bathrooms superb. The location is ideal for exploring the Wolds with so much to see and do in the area. I cannot recommend highly enough. Book your escape to this Yorkshire treasure and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
“Unique and luxurious”
Truly amazing, an excellent stay for me and my family, a home from home.  It was relaxing and spacious, nothing short of perfect.  The property is unique and luxurious with all you would need.  The Triton pub does real ale and is very welcoming.
“Perfect location”
Fabulous 5* accommodation in a perfect location for exploring the wolds countryside and coast.
“Spacious and well equipped”
The Engine Room Cottage is lovely, spacious and well equipped. With 3 generous bedrooms all ensuite spotlessly clean, a large open plan living area with a kitchen that wanted for nothing. The whole cottage had a cosy comfortable atmosphere and the surrounding countryside was a added bonus I will certainly miss the view from my bedroom window definitely. It is also a great base to visit the many attractions, Scarborough, Bridlington, York etc also I would recommend a visit to the beautiful Sledmere House and grounds and a cheeky drink or two in the Triton pub 10 minutes walk up the road. I would highly recommend this cottage and Catherine the owner and will definitely consider coming back soon.
“The most stunning cottage”
This is to date the most stunning cottage I have had the pleasure of staying in. The owners are an absolute credit to the cottage letting industry.  Absolutely beautiful.
“This property is a credit to the owners and
maintenance staff”
The Engine Room was spotless on arrival, little treats and a bottle of wine had been left for us which was a wonderful touch. The house was always warm and comfortably accommodated the 5 of us in the party. The village is small with a local pub, the Triton Inn, selling good food. I highly recommend this property and it is a credit to the owners and maintenance staff.
“Five Star”
There was a really welcoming feel as we came into the huge open plan kitchen, dining and living area and although it was cold outside the house was cosy throughout our stay. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped and there is attention to detail everywhere with nice touches such as the provision of fluffy white bath robes. We ate at the excellent Triton Inn in the village on the first day and we liked it so much we returned again the next day. We stayed three nights and visited the Sledmere Christmas craft and food fair five minutes walk away, and the Malton Christmas fair the next day, a short drive away. It was very quiet in the cottage and I especially liked waking to the view of green fields with grazing sheep at the back.It is only a short drive to the coast so we will definitely return again to explore the cliffs, coves and beaches of the region. 5*.
“Somewhere to lower your blood pressure for sure!”
The Engine Room is a beautifully converted fire station, with memorabilia discretely placed. It is immaculately kept, with a very well thought out open plan living room, a very well equipped kitchen and (unlike other similar accommodation) has 3 bath/shower rooms alongside 3 good sized bedrooms. It is a stone's throw away from Sledmere House and its surrounding gardens and farm shop. The village itself is delightful with a very nice pub (The Triton). A short drive away is the market town of Malton, ample walks for the fit and not-so-fit. Somewhere to lower your blood pressure for sure! I could not recommend ER highly enough.
“The views were fantastic”
We booked this holiday because our daughter was getting married at Sledmere House nearby. We were extremely happy with the house and the views were fantastic. Every bedroom had its own bathroom and there was plenty of space in the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area, we all had a brilliant few days staying there.
“Excellent place to get away from it all”
I spent my birthday weekend at The Engine Room with a group of friends. The place is converted tastefully, is very well equipped and the host is very accommodating. We arrived to find biscuits, cake, wine and lovely fluffy bathrobes for each of us. We immediately settled into the cosy cottage and everyone loved their ensuite bedrooms each full of light and very well maintained. Sledmere itself is a lovely village. Lots of walking routes and a trip to Sledmere House and Gardens is a must. Everyone is so friendly and the local pub is great. We spent one morning in Malton (25 mins), which is definitely worth a drive for a wander around. York is about 40 mins away in the direction of home so we stopped off there on the way back. All in all a really good spot from which to explore with high quality accommodation which has absolutely everything you could need. Including a full Mad Men box set! Highly recommended.
“Fantastic and well situated”
Fantastic, roomy cottage - well appointed and comfortable throughout. All three rooms have en suites and very comfy beds! Well situated to walk and explore the Yorkshire Wolds. Would highly recommend.
